VIBES: THE CURE - JUST LIKE HEAVEN (song 1987)

I love this song, as do millions of people throughout the world.

This post is dedicated to Heidi.

I wanted to take a former coworker and love interest, to see THE CURE in concert, but it never happened.

I remember calling her, but Heidi's father answered the phone before she got to it. He treated me like public enemy number one. He never met me in person, and yet, he was convinced I was scum.

In fact, most people treat me as if I were a two legged disease.

Heidi, do you still have the castle on the lake?

Don't know why, but I've been thinking about her during the last few days.

I hope she's alive, healthy, and happy. In case any of you are wondering, yes, it still hurts that she didn't even say goodbye.

The day she quit, she walked out the door for parts unknown and never looked back... Good for her.

Lyrics to JUST LIKE HEAVEN are copyright of Robert Smith.

Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick

The one that makes me scream, she said

The one that makes me laugh, she said

And threw her arms around my neck

Show me how you do it

And I promise you, I promise that

I'll run away with you

I'll run away with you

Spinning on that dizzy edge

Kissed her face and kissed her head

Dreamed of all the different ways

I had to make her glow

Why are you so far away?, she said

Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you

That I'm in love with you?

You, soft and only

You, lost and lonely

You, strange as angels

Dancing in the deepest oceans

Twisting in the water

You're just like a dream

You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape

I must've been asleep for days

And moving lips to breathe her name

I opened up my eyes

And found myself alone, alone

Alone above a raging sea

That stole the only girl I loved

And drowned her deep inside of me

You, soft and lonely

You, lost and lonely

You, just like heaven

VIBES: A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS - THE MORE YOU LIVE, THE MORE YOU LOVE (song 1984)

This is such an underrated song.

It's a shame, that most people only know FLOCK OF SEAGULLS from their song, I RAN (SO FAR AWAY).

I love THE MORE YOU LIVE, and it's definitely one of my favorites.

For me, this is one of the songs that symbolizes why I prefer "new wave" over "hardcore punk".

Far too many people in "hardcore punk" were simply ranting in an incoherent manner. Many of them claimed they didn't care if people liked their "music". Yeah, right!... Let me state the obvious, they were FULL OF SHIT! The first time many of those bands got a record deal, their alleged contempt for money, fame, and mainstream assimilation flew out the window! What a bunch of fucking hypocrites!

Meanwhile, I always thought NEW WAVE had far more subversive lyrics, and were performed with more sincerity by people that were far more serious about their art. In my opinion, that's what it was, ART.

Those groups and solo singers sang dark lyrics in the most beautiful way they could.

Their official website is A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS.

Song lyrics below are copyright of Mike Score, Ali Score, Frank Maudsley and Paul Reynolds.

Never give your heart to a stranger

Don't tell your secrets to a friend

Don't put your heart in mortal danger

They all desert you in the end

The more you live, the more you love

Or so they say

The more you love, the more you're growing

They say that nothing lasts forever

And even true love turns to pain

Don't trust your feelings to a stranger

Don't wanna go through this again

The more you live, the more you love

Or so they say

The more you love, the more you're growing

Don't ever give your heart to a stranger

Don't ever think that you can hold on

Don't put your heart in mortal danger

You turn around and love has gone

The more you live, the more you love

Or so they say

The more you love, the more you throw away

The more you live, the more you love

Or so they say

IMAGES: RED ROCK WEST (movie 1993)

This is one of my favorite movies of all time.

It was written and directed by John Dahl. He's also responsible for KILL ME AGAIN, THE LAST SEDUCTION, and JOY RIDE.

A man by the name of Michael (Nicolas Cage) is looking for work and gets mistaken for a killer for hire named Lyle (Dennis Hooper).

The man that hires Michael is a bartender named Wayne (J. T. Walsh). Surprise, Wayne is also the Sheriff!

The Sheriff wants Michael to murder is wife Suzanne (Lara Flynn Boyle). When he shows up to their house, Michael tells Suzanne, what her loving husband has planned for her.

Soon after, the shit starts hitting the fan.

The sheriff's co-workers start getting suspicious of his behavior.

Meanwhile, the real killer for hire, becomes more irate with every passing minute.

There's dark humor. Plus, the love triangle that never was, falls apart quickly.

Dwight Yoakam has a small role as a truck driver, his character drives an Isuzu N series.

Watch the movie!

VIBES: DWIGHT YOAKAM - A THOUSAND MILES FROM NOWHERE (song 1993)

I LOVE THIS SONG! It is one of my all-time favorites. I love the lyrics, and even the music video is good.

It also plays at the end of RED ROCK WEST, which is one of my favorite movies.

Partial song lyrics are copyright of Dwight Yoakam

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere

Time don't matter to me

'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere

And there's no place I want to be

I got heartaches in my pocket

I got echoes in my head

Oh, I....

I've got bruises on my memory

I've got tear stains on my hands

And in the mirror there's a vision

Of what used to be a man

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere

Time don't matter to me

'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere

And there's no place I want to be

IMAGES: I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW (movie 2018)

At least half the population has literally dropped dead from some type of pandemic.

The people that have survived seem to be few and far between.

Del (Peter Dinklage) seems to be one of those few. He spends his time going from home to home gathering up the bodies and burying them. He also preserves their documents and photos.

One night he's awakened by the sounds of fireworks. In the morning, he finds a young woman unconscious in a car. He brings her home and patches her up. Her name is Grace (Elle Fanning), and she starts helping Del with burials and everything else.

After a bit of time they get unexpected guests, and Grace is forced to go somewhere she doesn't want to go.

A short time later, Del tracks her down and is shocked by what he finds.

I didn't think I was going to like this film, but soon after it ended, I watched it again. It has become one of my favorites. That's actually saying a lot, since I'm not fond of most recent movies.

VIBES: MIRANDA LEE RICHARDS - EARLY NOVEMBER (song 2009)

I love listening to the songs of Miranda Lee Richards. I think her voice is mesmerizingly beautiful. I find her songs to be extremely therapeutic.

Singers are a-dime-a-dozen. What separates people like Ms. Richards from the rest of the crowd, is the fact she writes, and knows how to play a guitar. In my opinion, that's what makes individuals like her true artists.

I believe when a person sings a song they wrote, that makes their performance an act of sincerity. Those heartfelt emotions, make a big difference when you listen to the words.

Two of her songs, THE LONG GOODBYE, and EARLY NOVEMBER are my favorites so far.

The cinematography in the EARLY NOVEMBER music video is stunning. I think it has a noir feel to it.

I heard of Ms. Richards for the first time via a radio show called ECHOES, or maybe it was HEARTS OF SPACE. I can't be certain which show it was. All I know is that I was hooked.

Watch her music videos.
